Who We Are
The Center for Housing & Poverty Education (CFHPE) will be a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public about housing insecurity, homelessness, and poverty through research-informed, accessible, and human-centered content.
Founded in 2026, CFHPE grew out of a recognition that public understanding of homelessness and poverty is often shaped by misconceptions, oversimplifications, and stigma. We believe that accurate information, presented in an accessible way, is essential for addressing these complex social challenges. Furthermore, we believe that putting the right technology into place is key in helping those in communities experiencing poverty find available resources.
CFHPE operates several public programs, including:
- GoFind.help - A streamlined resource discovery tool
- Unhomed.info - Educational content about homelessness
- SystemsofPoverty.info - Explanations of systemic factors in poverty
Our work is grounded in the Greater Houston area but designed to be relevant and accessible to broader audiences.
Our Approach
CFHPE's approach to public education is characterized by several key principles:
Accessible
We prioritize clarity, readability, and usability across all our programs. This means using plain language, mobile-first design, and removing unnecessary barriers to access.
Ecosystem Thinking
We recognize that no single resource can address all educational needs related to housing and poverty. Our programs are designed to complement each other and work together as an ecosystem of resources.
Evidence-Based
We ground our content in research, data, and lived experience, ensuring that our educational materials reflect current understanding rather than assumptions or stereotypes.
Human-Centered
We center the dignity and humanity of people experiencing housing insecurity and poverty. Our content avoids dehumanizing language and emphasizes structural factors rather than individual blame.
Practical
We design our resources to be genuinely useful for their intended audiences, whether that's someone seeking services, a student learning about systemic issues, or a community member wanting to better understand homelessness.
Technology
We believe that technology plays a vital role in the support of people in need. That technology needs to be designed with specific purpose and intent and be free of complexity.
Our Team
CFHPE is led by a small team of professionals with backgrounds in education, social services, technology, and nonprofit management. Our work is guided by:
Board of Directors
Our board will provide governance oversight and strategic direction. Board members bring diverse expertise in nonprofit management, housing policy, education, technology, and community engagement.
Advisory Council
Our advisory council will include individuals with lived experience of housing insecurity, service providers, researchers, and community advocates. They provide critical insights that inform our content and approach.
Staff
Our staff team manages day-to-day operations, content development, technical maintenance, and community engagement. We maintain a lean organizational structure to maximize impact and sustainability.
For more information about our governance structure, please visit our Governance page.
Our Values
CFHPE's work is guided by a set of core values:
Accessibility
We believe that information and resources should be accessible to everyone, regardless of technical ability, education level, or (within reason) the age or capability of the device used.
Accuracy
We are committed to providing accurate, evidence-based information that reflects the complexity of housing and poverty issues.
Dignity
We believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every person, regardless of housing status or economic circumstances.
Systemic Understanding
We recognize that housing insecurity and poverty are shaped by systemic factors, including policy decisions, market forces, and historical inequities.
Transparency
We are committed to organizational transparency in our operations, funding, and decision-making processes.
